Passion For Travel

Tourists in our back yard was created out of curiosity and necessity. Sharing our experience while inspiring our readers to explore their back yards wherever it may be.

We met on a cross country trip from New York to California, driving a 1976 Ford LTD Country Squire. We explored cities and parks across the United States cultivating our love for the outdoors and curiosity for different cultures. It stayed with us since.

Pursuing careers in Hotel management for Gil and Pastry Chef for Smadar kept us moving around to Texas, New York, Florida, Maryland and most recently back to Miami Florida.

During the recession of 2008-2011 we found ourselves tightening our belt and traveling closer to home. We felt that if over 23 million people from around the world visit Miami each year, we can make it our own vacation destination and on a budget.

We ventured out to explore the South Florida less traveled driving, walking, biking and at times using public transportation. We always packed a picnic basket just in case we found a beautiful spot to sit and enjoy.

Hence Tourists in Our Backyard was born. It was, until recently, kept for personal use.

2020 introduced us to new challenges and uncertainties and we decided to make our explorations public. Now more than ever we need to step out for a breath of fresh air, connect with the local community, experience and explore nature.

Join us as we discover beautiful south Florida one backyard at a time
